The daily erosion of human and social rights, considered until recently as permanent acquisitions, together with the excesses of the liberal economy, have led to a huge increase in poverty and a social regression previously unknown in France.
Today one fifth of the population is marginalised, only surviving thanks to public and private charity. Men, women and children are forced to live in a state of humiliating dependence, watching their living conditions degrading constantly.
Before humanitarian commiseration, degrading resignation and a barbaric society become generally accepted we are founding Droits Devant !! (lit. Rights Ahead !!) with the aim of organising concrete action to support the cause of those already relegated from life and those who are on the way. A chance for them to be heard, to gain access to their basic rights. We associate with those who feel threatened and those who don't want to live in fortresses.
Working with the association "Droits Au Logement" (lit. Right To Housing) in their fundamentally non-violent struggle to create solidarity we have launched an immediate demand for the application of the Law of Requisition.
Individually and severally we participate and bring our knowledge and experience to this vital project.
As citizens, union or associative militants, artists, researchers or academics it is our individual and collective responsibility to react, to consider and take action together.
The building at 7, rue du Dragon has been occupied since the18th December by 60 homeless families, members of Droit Au Logement and the Comité Des Sans-Logis. Droits Devant ! will be a place for solidarity, sharing knowledge, exchanging skills and for mobilisation for human rights.
In order to trigger off the spirit of struggle and healthy solidarity across the country, we have created Droits Devant !!
